Shakib al-Hasan will not be a part of the impending two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, the Bangladesh Cricket Board said on Thursday (February 22).

The BCB had excluded Shakib for the impending white-ball series against Sri Lanka. The Southpaw won’t be part of the two-match Test series either, which is essential for the third pattern of the ICC World Test Championship.

Due to his eye problem, Shakib was struggling with his batting during the start of the Bangladesh Premier League. However, as time passed, he began to prosper with the bat, making 249 runs in 11 matches in spite of scoring just four runs in the initial three innings.

The Sri Lanka series, incorporating three T20 internationals, three ODIs, and two Tests, will kick off on March 4 at the Sylhet Global Cricket Stadium with the three-match T20I series opener.

Shakib might play in the upcoming Dhaka Premier League for Sheik Jamal Dhanmondi Club to get some additional time in the middle with the bat, thus preparing for worldwide cricket. DPL will begin on March 9, 2024.
